ABOUT ME.
My name is Rhett “Riot” Tanner. Not only am I a certified personal trainer, educator, and life coach, but I’m a client as well. I enlisted into the U.S. Army where I physically and mentally prepared myself for the 18x program (Army Special Forces).
It was here I sustained my first back injury. I broke my L4 vertebrae in two places and was discharged from the military.
After losing 40 lbs. and most of my mobility in my low back, I became frustrated and decided to do something about it. Over the course of the following year I rehabbed my own back and gained back all my weight and was in the best shape of my life with minimal pain.
It was then I chose to become a rescue firefighter and EMT to continue to fulfill my sense of duty to my country. Unfortunately it was here that I suffered my second back injury and my third break. This time in my T8. The injury cost me my job in the fire service and I also re-injured my L4.
I now suffer from chronic back pain, loss of mobility, and 6 subluxations in my cervical spine due to my body’s compensation to the other injuries. Every day is a challenge, but I utilize the knowledge I have of the human body and its ability to adapt and heal to overcome these challenges and improve myself every day.
As human beings we experience life stressors, hectic schedules, ups and downs, injuries and trauma, and just seasons in our lives where we let our overall health take a back seat and not be a priority. My great passion is bringing health and wellness back to people the way that I have myself. I help my clients learn sustainable healthy diet, exercise, and lifestyle solutions for themselves and their families, to strengthen not only their bodies, but their minds.
It was my own life stressors that led me into my first gym when I was 18. I immediately found a home there. It was the love I found in fitness that helped me rise up and overcome my physical challenges and enabled me to continue to help others through my experiences and story. Fitness has been the best decision I have ever made.
Everyone’s story is different. I know that no single approach is the right one for every individual. I have been trained in a range of modalities including strength training, nutrition, corrective exercise, tactical strength and conditioning, and speed and agility.
My educational background includes a CPT awarded by the National Council on Strength and Fitness as well as a tactical certification and boxing certificate. I’m also a licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). I’ve been a licensed practicing Certified Personal Trainer for 15+ years.
If you decide to work with me there are a few things you can expect. First, I will always strive to educate you on why we are doing what we are doing. When the time comes to let you go on your own I want you to feel confident you have a basic understanding of how you can continue to better the rest of your life, as well as those around you. Secondly, you will get positive reinforcement. I want you to not only get results; I want you to walk away feeling positive about them. I want you to hold your head high and recognize the hard work you put in to achieve your mission.
Even if you aren’t right where you want to be, yet, I want you to feel confident you now possess the ability and knowledge to reach those goals, with or without my help. Lastly, you can expect to work hard, and I will expect you to work hard. Nothing rewarding comes easy. If you are open to change and are honest with yourself, and me, I have no doubt you will put in the hard work and feel great doing it.
